The SportPesa League, previously known as FKF Premier League is the highest level of professional football in Kenya. Managed under the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), the league features 18 top clubs, including Gor Mahia, A.F.C. Leopards, Shabana FC, Muranga Seal FC, and Ulinzi Stars. Since its formation in 1963, the league has been the heartbeat of Kenyan football, growing through decades of change. Today, it stands as a platform where clubs and players showcase their talent while competing for national glory and continental qualification in the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.
Sponsorship and Growth
From the 2025/26 season, Kenya’s top-flight will officially be known as the SportPesa League, following a landmark Ksh1.12 billion partnership between SportPesa and FKF. This long-term commitment is set to raise standards both on and off the pitch.
- Prize money: The champions will receive Ksh15 million, while the top three clubs will share a total of Ksh20 million.
- Club support: 60% of sports sponsorship funds will be channeled directly to the 18 clubs. Doing so improves player welfare, facilities, and training.
- League operations: The remaining 40% will support the federation in managing and growing the competition.
- Broadcasting: Fans can enjoy live coverage through Azam TV, ensuring nationwide access to fixtures.
Future ambitions
The launch of the SportPesa League sets the beginning of a new story for Kenyan football. With historic champions like Gor Mahia and Tusker FC leading the charge and rising forces such as Shabana FC bringing fresh energy, the SportPesa League promises fierce rivalries and unforgettable matches.
